MAPS TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TRIP

To calculate driving distances, try the RAC route planner, the AA Route Planner or MSN Maps UK.

Other map resources include:
Maps.com offers a variety of maps from handy travel maps to detailed road atlases, plus wall maps and travel guides.

Multimap, one of the best sites for everything from regional maps to detailed street maps worldwide...plus the London Tube map. Yahoo! U.K. & Ireland features very detailed street maps, plus driving directions. Mapquest United Kingdom is a bit harder to use than Multimap and is not as detailed. Streetmap is an excellent place to find British maps with street-level detail. Get-a-map, run by the Ordnance Survey, has road/street maps of the U.K. It's not as detailed as others but is a good general overview. Maps are also available for purchase.

Good walking and trekking maps are not typically available for free viewing on the Internet. However, the following sites are among the best for purchasing maps on-line: The Ordnance Survey, Britain's National mapping agency, is the leader in U.K. cycling/walking maps. Stanfords sells worldwide walking, cycling and country maps.
